Anotace

The publication presents basic calculation principles in finance and insurance. Its chapters concern the main practical aspects of financial and insurance issues that have become important parts of contemporary life. The reader of this publication should be capable of repeating and then applying numerically all presented calculations by means of simple calculation instruments (e.g., numerical calculators or Excel), unassisted by any specialized software. It may sound an anachronism in the era of AI, but it helps substantially to make sense of the fundamentals of various problems and to make important financial or insurance decisions. Moreover, this fact predetermines the text as a suitable training material in contrast to computer-oriented courses of finance or actuarial science. Primarily, the publication may be helpful for people dealing professionally with problems of quantitative economy (in banks, insurance companies and pension funds, financial institutions, investment planning, treasury, government bodies and others) or those simply interested in the financial or insurance problems they meet in practical life.
