The Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) is launching a call for expressions of interest for the (voluntary) role of Chairperson of the Solvency II Working Group, following the retirement of Siegbert Baldauf, who previously served as Chairperson of the Working Group.
The Solvency II Working Group plays a central role in the AAE’s technical and policy activities, including contributions to European consultations, publications, and engagement with key stakeholders (Terms of Reference are attached). Ensuring strong technical leadership and continuity of the group’s work is therefore essential.
The AAE is seeking a Chairperson who is technically grounded in Solvency II and has a strong interest in European prudential insurance regulation. The role involves providing technical and strategic leadership to the Working Group, including preparation and chairing of meetings, coordination of technical discussions, and oversight of contributions to AAE outputs. Additionally, the SII WG Chairperson may be involved in meetings and discussions with European Stakeholders and policymakers such as the European Commission and EIOPA.
The expected time commitment is approximately 5–6 hours per month, recognising that workload may vary depending on regulatory activity. The AAE support team will continue to provide operational and technical support to the Working Group, including coordination of consultation processes, support with the drafting and consolidation of consultation responses, assistance with the preparation and publication of papers and documents, as well as the organisation and scheduling of Working Group meetings.
Expressions of interest should consist of a short motivation note, and a brief summary of relevant experience. These should be submitted by 28 February 2026 to Lauri Saraste (Lauri.Saraste@lahitapiola.fi) and Monique Schuilenburg (moniques@actuary.eu).
Finally, the AAE would like to reiterate the Working Group’s sincere appreciation for Siegbert Baldauf’s long-standing leadership and contribution.
Should you have any questions regarding the role or the process, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
This Call for Expressions of Interest is also published on the AAE website: Vacancies – Actuarial Association of Europe.
